The above images are animated GIFs that are dynamically created by the weather crunching software written in Visual Basic. VB app. calls a server-side ASP page that uses request strings and Server Objects' ASP Image to write the GIF files programmatically. Weather content written varies to account for interesting events, and updates at 10-minute intervals, for South Portland location only. All others update at METAR schedule. Please contact me if you wish to use the image on your web page. Like everything on this site, it is proof-of-concept and developed to demonstrate varied methods of programming.
ASOS stations report only once per hour, but the update period is 10 minutes since each station is on a different schedule.
